Useful Resources/Links

These resources are broken up into five categories

CDs, DVDs & Vinyl: Helpful information to launch your mastered project:

You may have your music replicated  as a manufactured compact disc or duplicated as a CDR.  Replicated CDs  have all the necessities for global competition and distribution.

Small quantities are best having duplicated CDRs made.  Here you can use the self service site to design your CD graphics.

Some go for the vinyl (record) style of replication

Advice: Dos and don'ts of CD release parties.

Glossary of terms

Graphics (design for the CD)

What stores want on a CD for consignment.

Special (enhanced CDs)

Copyright information (not knowing this will grind a replicated process to a halt.)

Distribution: How one go about getting their music out there amongst the other countless releases:

Sending out a demo to a label.

Places to send hard copies (CDs)  for distribution

Repairs and maintenance of your gear

Independent Labels: A few to try - there are many online, although be careful about anything contractual (or not)!

Indie Labels: Again, no shortage of these.  Some come and go - most don't provide much in results, but a good way to network out.

Major Labels:  A few listed, but truthfully - these guys don't want to hear from you until you prove that you don't need them!  If you sell  enough units, they'll find you and then it's YOUR card game.

Miscellaneous links: Just for the heck of it links

RU Serious?!
No one out there will do anything for you unless they can make money from it.  You need to either hire someone to market your product or do your own leg work.  Take the time and look into some of these links for marketing.  Hey, I did all this for free!

Deals or not
Never bind yourself to  a label contract without an entertainment attorney giving you the scoop.  Unless there is serious money to be made, you're better off spreading your music over a wide range of labels (preferably like iTunes) that protect the downloads with coding.

MP3s safe?
No, and these days everyone seems to think music should be free - like health care (until they need life saving surgery) yes Canadians I am talking about you!  Anywho, no problem if some music is spread around freely - it's like advertising only you're not paying radio and TV their confiscating rates.  If enough are distributed, the record company police will find you and make a deal you can't refuse. ;)
