Digital Recording:   Steinberg's Nuendo DAW

The Pro Tools competitor - Only better!

Projects can be imported and exported using the OMF feature found in the "Professional" version of Pro Tools.

An unlimited number of  mixes are possible so there is no excuse for a "bad mix" leaving the studio (except your budget!).  Projects saved and archived can be revisited and remixed as long as the DVDROM was well taken care of!

Other Digital Recorders

Yamaha SU700 Sampler

SU-700

A great piece of equipment to sample a sound, loop it, change it's characteristics, and then play it live while recording.  There are 40 tracks and a long chain of effects.

32 tracks of ADAT 16 and 20 bit

  Sony DAT Machine

  Marantz CDR/RW

Other Audio Software in Current Use

  Sound Forge 6.0, 8.0

Acid Pro 6.0

  Sony CD Architect

  Sony Vegas, DVD Architect

*** As long as each file in your project is exported properly to .wav or .aif,  it doesn't matter which software was used to record it.

Note: Each file must have a common start point and have no breaks in between start and actual audio.

Export (mixing) Formats:

**Pro Tools and Nuendo share much in common.  One important item is the export feature: OMF 2.0  With OMF a project could be exported and imported between the two using this format.  This reduces the need to export individual tracks as wav or aiff which may take 80% longer.

Hot Tip
We spent a considerable amount upgrading a NEW converter with higher quality parts.  Analog to digital conversion is a very important step and only the highest quality converters will give you the competitive edge you need.

Pro or not?
If it says "Pro" on it, how can ya go wrong?!  Well, Digidesign had some smart people come up with a catchy title.  But with Nuendo costing $3,000 - there must be a good reason for it!

That being said, both offer workstations that are similar in design and what they do.  But when it all comes down to it - the ears and experience play a major role in getting the best mix, not so much the software.
